Ansel Adams-Born Free And Equal Analysis And Response

Ansel Adams work for "born free and equal" is based on the lives of the prisoners of the Japanese interment camps, he tried to capture the loss of property and the suffering this community have injured. Adams visit compared to two other photographers who shot the life of the camp (Dorothea Lange and Toyo Miyatake) were somewhat similar but also different. Langes work was before Adam's visit and the camp wasn't as civilised as it was during his visit, However Miyatake and Adam's path crossed and their images were taken around the same time. Adams shot his images in black and white I especially like this because it makes his images stand out compared to photos that could be take today as it gives more depth into the narrative. His work consisted of both establishing and detail shots this was very effective in his work because it shows an overview of everything going on in the camp but also because it explores more into the lives of single identities and also their different jobs around the now civilisation of the camp plus it gives us more detail into the suffering and treatment of the citizen prisoners.

I shot these images using the black and white filter on my Canon D200 with a standard 55mm lens in the studio using different lighting and i also tested out different exposures .
