Duane Michals is a famous photographer known for his use of series and multiple exposures and also text in his photography work, his first most significant steps in photography were in the 1960's , an era which was densely influenced by the use of photojournalism.

Many have said that his work is poetic yet tragic and humorous at the same time as he includes text in his work. What's so significant about his work is that it is widely known for his cinematic frame to frame layout

Michals was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in 1932. He took art classes at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh and then he attended the University of Denver where he finished his undergraduate degree in 1953. He then moved to New York and studied at Parsons School of Design and worked as a graphic designer for Dance and Time Magazine.

From 1996 Michals composed his images with multi-frame layouts and continued doing this for most of his work and then in 1974 he started adding small amounts of text to the frames as well as adding paint.
