Chiaroscuro

Chiaroscuro is the Italian word which means 'clear' (chiaro) and 'obscure' (oscuro).

this in simple photographic terms means chiaroscuro is the art of extreme contrast (juxtaposition) between the clear and dark in a photograph.

  • More extreme contrast and post processing (crush the blacks)

  • think about what you are trying to 'bring to light' in your photos (clear) and what you are trying to 'hide or obscure' (oscuro)
